I gained a multitude of knowledge from the Instructional Technology Leadership class. I learned about the importance of a shared vision and technology implementation plan. Before this class, I was not sure how to help my school implement technology further; however, I now know that we must create a well-defined implementation plan based on our shared vision in order to integrate technology successfully. In order to create this plan, I discovered that we must complete a SWOT analysis to assess our school’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. Due to the practice provided by this class, I feel confident in my ability to complete a SWOT analysis.
The RSS feed has become an important tool for me as a teacher and instructional technology coach. It has helped me stay informed on the developments in the fields of education and technology. Due to the RSS feed, I do not have to go searching for research and news since it is all being collected in my feed. This tool is vital for anyone in a professional field that is changing and developing, like education. I will encourage my administrators and colleagues to use RSS feeds to stay informed.
Our course reading gave me a deeper understanding of a leader’s role in technology implementation. Even though the book was aimed at principals, I gained a lot of insight into how to effectively lead technology implementation. I found great value in Creighton’s emphasis on using available technology for improving the quality lessons instead of focusing on the flashiest and newest gadgets. Overall, I feel more confident in my role as instructional technology coach. I believe that I have the knowledge and skills to help our school’s technology team implement technology more effectively.
