2.1 Content Standards & Student Technology Standards
Candidates model and facilitate the design and implementation of technology-enhanced learning experiences aligned with student content standards and student technology standards. (PSC 2.1/ISTE 2a)
Artifact: Multimedia Design Project and Report
Reflection:
For the completion of standard 2.1, I designed and implemented a Multimedia webquest lesson plan which I designed in ITEC 7445, to illustrate my ability to integrate curriculum and technology standards. By researching Roman culture and creating a Wikispace page, I was able to address with this project the ISTE student and teacher standards as well as the local, state, and national curriculum standards for Foreign Language, specifically for Latin. I designed each lesson plan with the indicators of engaged learning in mind. It utilizes a variety of digital tools, like Vocaroo, Weebly, YouTube, Voki, Wikispaces, Google, and Screencast-omatic to complete the different aspects of the projects. For the project, I modeled website design by creating a Weebly page, where I posted all of the project information for the students. The students created a Wikispaces page to share their research information with a broader audience. I selected digital tools that would foster collaboration, promote critical thinking, permit communication, provide feedback, and inspire creativity.
Creating the webquest was extremely beneficial to me. It enabled me to evaluate and analyze my current lesson plans to find ways to increase student engagement and achievement through the use of technology. I became more familiar with the indicators of engaged learners. I discovered ways to seamlessly integrate technology standards with curriculum standards. By creating this project, I gained knowledge and experience in attending to the various needs of my students, especially when it comes to providing equitable access and assisting students with disabilities. I acquired valuable skills in adapting, using, and troubleshooting various Web 2.0 tools. I developed an appreciation for the importance of providing students with opportunities to construct their own understanding and to illustrate their mastery by creating a final product of their own design. After the completion of this lesson, I modeled my new knowledge, skills, and disposition in my classroom and facilitated my colleagues in creating enhanced lesson plans that utilize Web 2.0 tools. I have seen great changes in my classroom and school due to the knowledge and skills that I gained and shared as a result of creating this lesson plans. If I were to complete this assignment again, I would have the students review each other’s Wikispaces pages. I would ask the students to record and post a 2-3 minute response to two of their peer’s Wikispaces pages. I think that it is important for students to review each other's work.
The effects of this assignment can be assessed through classroom assessments, perception surveys, and observations. Using technology in my lessons has increased my students’ participation, which has also led to an increase in performance. In addition to seeing positive effects in my class, I have shared my Webquest lesson and the tools that I used with other teachers. They have implemented these tools and strategies in their classrooms as well since they have increased engagement in their classroom.
