Vision
Technology has revolutionized education. Due to the Internet, students have access to an endless amount of information. This change has made it possible to move beyond rote memorization and regurgitation of dates and facts. It is now our job as educators to teach students how to gather, analyze, and synthesize this information. We must provide our students with higher-order thinking skills, such as critical thinking and problem-solving, in order to know how to apply knowledge.
I envision technology being utilized throughout the school to provide all students with a world-class education. Highly-trained educators engage their students with challenging, authentic, collaborative, technology-infused lessons. Technology is the tool that empowers educators to:
When carried out in practice, teachers would be using the SAMR model to increase their usage of technology in the classroom (Puentedura, 2006). Teachers would move their way up the ladder from the beginning substitution phase to the advanced redefinition phase. Due to the different curriculum and the varying levels of teacher proficiency, each classroom looks different and uses technology in a variety of ways. For example, in some classes, students use technology to practice skills whereas in other classes students use technology to create and share video projects that illustrates their mastery of a topic. However, throughout all classes students will use technology as they act as explorers to construct their own understanding of the curriculum. Teachers facilitate learning and act as guides, coaches, and co-learners with the students. Overall, by providing equitable access to all, the school is an environment where all students and adults are constantly learning with and about technology.
