Reflections:
My Weebly Blog highlights my regular practice of reflection. After each Kennesaw class, I have posted a reflection on what I gained from the experience. In these reflections, I address the new knowledge, skills, and dispositions that I gained as a result of our experiences, readings, and projects. These reflections helped me appreciate the value of the class and encouraged me to continue applying the lessons I learned to my professional life.
I found writing regular reflections to be beneficial. I deepened my understanding by summarizing my learning. The lessons from class became deeply ingrained in me after I took the time to write about what I had learned. If I were to complete this experience again, I would have my students complete a similar activity. I would like to have the students keep a journal where they reflect on what they learned and accomplished each chapter. This journal entry should contain the knowledge, skills, and dispositions that they have gained. The students might experience the same effect that I did: a deepening of knowledge through reflection. Fortunately, it is not too late for me to start this practice with my students.
The lasting effects of this experience can be observed in my professional behavior. After each chapter, I write a reflection on the title page. This reflection reviews the strengths and weakness of the lesson. I remind myself what should be changed for the next time. I use the lesson’s cover page for my reflection in order to ensure that I will see it when it is time to present the lesson the next year. By reflecting after each chapter, I have become more thoughtful about my lessons, which has increased their effectiveness. The increase in the effectiveness of my lessons has resulted in an increase in student performance, which can be assessed via assessment scores.
