Artifacts: GAPSS Review
Reflection:
This GAPSS Review, which I created in ITEC 7460, is an example of my ability to design and implement program evaluations. For this two part assignment, I determined the current state of professional development and instruction technology implementation in my school. I assessed the overall effectiveness of the program and how it aligned with our goals and initiatives. I analyzed the strengths and weaknesses of our program and recommended solutions.
This assignment was a great opportunity for me to gain a better understanding of our school. I discovered how professional development is designed, funded, and implemented. I gained a deeper understanding of the resources available at our school and discovered methods of utilizing these resources more fully. Creating recommendations for improvements excited me since I was able to help my school increase its effectiveness. My recommendations included creating a formal follow-up support system for professional development, creating instructional technology coaches in each department, formalizing the incentive program for participating in on-going professional development training, and creating long-term staff development training. I enjoyed applying what I have learned from research, the ISTE standards, and my KSU classes to guide my analysis and recommendations.
If I were to complete this assignment again, I would summarize and present my findings at a PTSA meeting. I think the community would be excited to hear about our strengths and would be motivated to help us improve in our areas of weakness. In my review, I observed that we are not utilizing community resources to the fullest extent. If I were to reach out into the community, I would be able to gain the support and necessary resources to help our school improve. For example, if more parents knew that students needed devices to use in class in order to provide digital equity, more parents would be willing to donate their old devices for student-use. I think that sharing my findings with the community would rally everyone around the same goal and vision.
The effects of this assignment can be assessed via surveys and observations. Our technology team is currently meeting in order to establish a school shared vision, based on my recommendation. This vision will be shared around the community and will hopefully rally the community support. Teachers have been asked for their input via electronic surveys. Additionally, the administrative team is currently working on the professional development program for next fall. They have consulted me in regards to how to improve the program based on my perceived strengths and weakness. I am very excited to see my recommendations come to fruition in the fall.
