Data Overview Presentation
Reflections:
This artifact is my data overview, which I created for ITEC 7035. This presentation was designed to illustrate our school’s student demographic and performance data to my school’s faculty and staff. In order to create this presentation, I collected current and previous school, district, and state data. I aggregated and analyzed the data. I observed that our school is very strong overall on standardized tests. On district and state assessments, our school scores over the mean. However, when I broke down the data according to subgroups, I noticed that we have a significant achievement gap between minority students and white students. Additionally, our students are struggling in math. SAT, PSAT, and EOC scores areas of improvement in math. I used this presentation to illustrate my findings to the faculty and staff.
This experience provided me with new knowledge and skills. I learned how to collect, aggregate, and analyze data. I improved my skills in Excel. By exploring demographic data, I learned how our school’s demographics have changed over the years. Overall, I developed a deeper understanding of our school’s demographics, performance, and areas of growth, which can guide my classroom instruction. Most beneficial was the experience in sharing this presentation with the faculty and staff. I was excited to share my findings and engage in a group discussion about ways to help our students achieve. I was excited to see how attentive and dedication the staff was to learning about our school and suggesting solutions.
The effects of this experience can be assessed through observations and surveys. By observing the instructional PLCs, one would see each team using the presentation to discuss methods of addressing diversity in the classroom. Each group shared their ideas with the administrative team via electronic survey. Additionally, I believe one could observe a change in the disposition of the faculty and staff. After our data discussion, the staff has become more conscious about using data to drive instruction.
